One Blog, One Tree, One Earth

Great day! Saturday!

No fever now (Yipee!), but I'm still having coughing fits, every now and then. I still have trouble sleeping because of that. But well, serves me right for eating junk food all the time.. and not exercising.. and not taking a daily dose of Vitamin C.

Anyway, enough of that. The good thing is, I'm now back. And today is THE day my blog becomes CARBON NEUTRAL.

How much carbon dioxide does your blog create?
According to a study by Alexander Wissner-Gross, PhD, physicist at Harvard University and environmental activist, an average website causes about 0.02g (0,0008oz.) of carbon dioxide for each visit. Assuming an average blog gets 15,000 visits a month, it has yearly carbon dioxide emissions of 3,6kg (8lb.). This can mainly be tracked back to the immense energy usage from (mainframe) computers, servers, and their cooling systems.

One tree neutralizes the carbon dioxide emissions of your blog.
As demonstrated in the above calculation, the atmosphere can be relieved by an average of 5kg (11lb.) carbon dioxide every year by planting one tree. An average blog causes 3.6kg (8lb.) of carbon dioxide emissions. Consequently, a tree neutralises the carbon dioxide emissions of a blog. Since a tree lives for an average of 50 years, carbon dioxide emissions of your blog can be completely neutralised for this time period.
So make your blog carbon neutral now.

Excerpts from Make Your Blog Carbon Neutral.

I'd like to share some of these quotes I found in the internet.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle
We generate our own environment. We get exactly what we deserve. How can we resent a life we've created ourselves? Who's to blame, who's to credit but us? Who can change it, anytime we wish, but us? - Richard Bach
We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive. - Albert Einstein
There is hope if people will begin to awaken that spiritual part of themselves, that heartfelt knowledge that we are caretakers of this planet. - Brooke Medicine Eagle

Everyone can make a simple contribution, but with great impact. This initiative may seem shallow and futile to some, but not to me. The thought of having people plant a tree in my (blog's) honor is simply awesome. I remember way back in 6th grade, I've joined a lot of nature trips and tree-planting activities in our baranggay (small town), in school and in the Girl Scouts. I remember feeling good after a long day of planting seedlings and documenting trees. *Flashback* Whoa. I am going to plant a tree tomorrow. ♥

One single tree, if everyone of us plants one, can make a difference.

We have only one earth..And it is already sick. Let us all do our share to make it better. Let us heal the world. Our planet. Our Earth. We do that, we will also heal ourselves.

  14. I live on a farm with over 30 acres of full-grown trees on it...can I just count myself carbon neutral now?

I also will be planting cherry trees this year, at least twenty...so covered!

Thanks for keeping us all environmentally conscious. It's so easy to forget our responsibilities to the planet and future generations while we go on from day to day.
