Things I'm Scared Of

A long time ago, there was this little girl who was afraid of clowns, thunderstorms, big hairy spiders, snakes, sharks, toilets, dentists, blood.. She overcame her fear of toilets and clowns, but she's still scared of thunderstorms. She's still afraid of big spiders, snakes and sharks. She still feels nauseated at the sight of blood. She's still afraid of dentists! Which is pathetic, çoz we all know that dentists don't do anything but help her take care of her pearly whites.

That little girl is me.

I don't like being left alone in the dark. I used to think that there are monsters everywhere. In my closet. Under the bed. In every dark corner of my room. That's why I had the night light on, every night. Mom told me that the night light creates a magical shield and that it'll protect me from monsters. I believed my mom, of course. Kids can be so naive, can't they?

Now that I've grown up, I know there are no monsters in my room. But I still sleep with the night light on. I'm afraid of total darkness. I feel like I can't breathe. Imagine a world without light.. pretty scary, right? Which is why I applaud all the blind people who don't give up on life. It must be very hard, not being able to see the beauty of the earth, but they continue to hope and live their lives. A million courage points for them!

I also don't like being home alone at night. I believe in ghosts, i think.. in the paranormal. Eerie sounds and ghost-like figures could easily freak me out, especially if they come from outside my bedroom window. Eeek!

I also don't want to watch those "there's-blood-everywhere-I-think-I'm-gonna-puke-too-much-gore" horror and slasher movies. No offense to you who love watching these kind of films, but dang, how do keep a straight face while watching those?

Okay, I've watched animated horror movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Igor and Monster House. But they're animated films and that make them less scary. A contradiction, I know. And another thing? I love the Resident Evil films. (long pause) I know, right! Oh, the irony...

I'm afraid of sharks, too. I'm fascinated by them, at the same time, deeply afraid. Sharks, they say, are the most misunderstood creatures on the planet. Oh, whatever. I don't want to see a shark, much more touch a shark. Period.

It all started when my brothers and I watched the 1988 movie, Jaws. I'm sure everybody has heard a thing or two about the movie. I still go to the beach. I love the beach. and I love swimming. But I always take a moment to gaze at the open sea, waiting.. hoping that I won't see a shark fin come out of the water. After Jaws, I never wanted to watch a shark movie again.

Yes, I scare easy. I'm weird that way. :p

  2. I'm not scared of the dark because I know it's not the darkness that's going to kill me. Wow that is actually kind of a comfort. Though I did used to love the night. I used to go out on walks at like 2 in the morning. I don't have curtains or a door so my room is never in total darkness, and my cats insist on jumping on me when I'm trying to get to sleep. Really I can't afford to be afraid of the dark. While I do believe in some aspects of the supernatural I don't think ghosts are out to hurt us, though that wouldn't stop me from screaming like a little girl were I to see one.

    1. Hahaha, oh I laughed at the last line.. reminded me of my brother. He also said, there's no reason to be scared of ghosts. They're just passing by.. I should be afraid of people, he said. But he also said, he'd run, crying to mom if ever he sees one. LOL..

Gawd, I'm really scared of total darkness. Can't breathe, like someone's choking me. Darn..

  10. Phobias have their own reasons. A scared person is always on the alert. Though fears just a state of the mind, but it's still good, if not better to he on guard always. Take care of your "fears" I know someday they help you out.

  15. Clowns make me very, very nervous. |:
Seriously though, it's okay to be afraid. Keeps you on your toes and whatnot. But the dark really isn't that pleasant, nope. Sure, I can sleep in it, 'cause I'll just put my mind away, but consciously being in the dark is something else.

    1. Clowns are a bit weird-looking, right? And they're.... I dunno. I don't really fear them now, but sometimes, I still get goosebumps when I see clowns. haha!

Hah, I agree. Being in the dark is like being in another world.. :|

  16. No you're not! Everyone has fears, phobias, and etc. I'm telling you I'm scared of railways. Maybe because I have seen an accident in the past. Which scares me everytime I stand in the platform. I can see it's like hell. There are reasons why we have different fears. Your al right nothing is wierd. :)

    1. Wow, your fear developed because of a bad experience. :( Well, yes I agree. There are reasons why we have fears.. Each and everyone of us fear something.. Thanks, ms Jenny.

  17. Our fears help create who we are. Those that we overcome, and those that we may choose or not choose to still be fearful of. Those who claim to be without fear have but the biggest fear to claim.

  19. It's not unusual to be scared or to get scared with something or perhaps someone, what is scary is not getting over the fear when you need to and living in fear for no reasons.

I am scared of so many things, we are all scared at one thing or two and that make us sane.

Don't worry i was afraid of the JAWS movie too....but that was long time ago and now not anymore.

  20. We're opposite with the dark. I can't sleep with the lights on, gusto ko total darkness or at least dim light. With being left alone at night, i was scared too but I get used to it. Independent living. Hahaha.

But I certainly agree with horror movies. I don't watch them too especially when there's blood spilled in every scene. I got dizzy too.

    1. Wow, independent living. Gusto ko rin sana nyan, kaso... hehehe.. well, I'm living independently din naman. Kaso with students all around (and also my Tita and Tito), I'm still not independent.. not really. Haha! Oh well..

    Ahas!hahaha

    1. Hihi.. siguro nga. Pero in my case talaga, maliban sa takot ko sa ghosts, I can't breathe kapag nakabukas ang mata ko, tapos wala talaga akong makita dahil sa sobrang dilim. :|

  24. hehe me , I don't mind being alone.. what I scared most are these street children.. dont get me wrong.. i have a bad experience with them, once I gave food to a street kid, then he just sudden grabs it and caused to have my arms bruised.. simula nun, i stay away from them.. makes me nervous talaga.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Aw, bad experience din. Naranasan ko din yan.. yung mga street kids, pag binigyan mo ang isa, dudumugin ka na ng lahat. Yun nga nakakatakot dun... at nakakalungkot, at the same time. THose kids should be at home, or at school, studying. Instead, sa kalye lang sila, namamalimos.

  26. I love horror movies, kahit super gore or simpleng thriller pero di ko kaya manood ng ganun ng straight face. Sila na! Nangingiwi pa din mukha ko pag too much gore yung pinapakita, I just love the excitement they're giving me while watching those kind of movies.

Natawa ako sa fear of toilet. Imagine kung di mo na-overcome yan Ate? HAHAHA. Actually, it's pretty good to live life with fear. Ayoko na ipaliwanag pero yun na yun! At least hindi phobia! HAHA.

  34. but i love blood, guts and gore! haha.
but i'm with you on the spiders and dentists, though. little spiders are sorta acceptable, but big hairy ones are freaky. and i always seem to think dentists will accidentally slip around in my mouth and stab my tongue or something.
i'm generally afraid of underwater, deep sea creatures in general. :(
