Things I'm Scared Of
A long time ago, there was this little girl who was afraid of clowns, thunderstorms, big hairy spiders, snakes, sharks, toilets, dentists, blood.. She overcame her fear of toilets and clowns, but she's still scared of thunderstorms. She's still afraid of big spiders, snakes and sharks. She still feels nauseated at the sight of blood. She's still afraid of dentists! Which is pathetic, çoz we all know that dentists don't do anything but help her take care of her pearly whites.
That little girl is me.
I don't like being left alone in the dark. I used to think that there are monsters everywhere. In my closet. Under the bed. In every dark corner of my room. That's why I had the night light on, every night. Mom told me that the night light creates a magical shield and that it'll protect me from monsters. I believed my mom, of course. Kids can be so naive, can't they?
Now that I've grown up, I know there are no monsters in my room. But I still sleep with the night light on. I'm afraid of total darkness. I feel like I can't breathe. Imagine a world without light.. pretty scary, right? Which is why I applaud all the blind people who don't give up on life. It must be very hard, not being able to see the beauty of the earth, but they continue to hope and live their lives. A million courage points for them!
I also don't like being home alone at night. I believe in ghosts, i think.. in the paranormal. Eerie sounds and ghost-like figures could easily freak me out, especially if they come from outside my bedroom window. Eeek!
I also don't want to watch those "there's-blood-everywhere-I-think-I'm-gonna-puke-too-much-gore" horror and slasher movies. No offense to you who love watching these kind of films, but dang, how do keep a straight face while watching those?
Okay, I've watched animated horror movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Igor and Monster House. But they're animated films and that make them less scary. A contradiction, I know. And another thing? I love the Resident Evil films. (long pause) I know, right! Oh, the irony...
I'm afraid of sharks, too. I'm fascinated by them, at the same time, deeply afraid. Sharks, they say, are the most misunderstood creatures on the planet. Oh, whatever. I don't want to see a shark, much more touch a shark. Period.
It all started when my brothers and I watched the 1988 movie, Jaws. I'm sure everybody has heard a thing or two about the movie. I still go to the beach. I love the beach. and I love swimming. But I always take a moment to gaze at the open sea, waiting.. hoping that I won't see a shark fin come out of the water. After Jaws, I never wanted to watch a shark movie again.
Yes, I scare easy. I'm weird that way. :p

di naman weird masyado. we have almost the same fears ate leah kaya okay lang yan.
ReplyDelete...though i ain't afraid of darkness. hehe ^^ mas di ako nakakatulog pag on ang lights. :)
Ay really, Orange? Hm, ayoko rin naman nang sobrang maliwanag. The night light will do. Ayoko lang talagang sobrang madilim.. nahihirapan akong huminga.
DeleteAy good to know na hindi naman masydong wirdo si Leah. haha!
I'm not scared of the dark because I know it's not the darkness that's going to kill me. Wow that is actually kind of a comfort. Though I did used to love the night. I used to go out on walks at like 2 in the morning. I don't have curtains or a door so my room is never in total darkness, and my cats insist on jumping on me when I'm trying to get to sleep. Really I can't afford to be afraid of the dark. While I do believe in some aspects of the supernatural I don't think ghosts are out to hurt us, though that wouldn't stop me from screaming like a little girl were I to see one.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, oh I laughed at the last line.. reminded me of my brother. He also said, there's no reason to be scared of ghosts. They're just passing by.. I should be afraid of people, he said. But he also said, he'd run, crying to mom if ever he sees one. LOL..
DeleteGawd, I'm really scared of total darkness. Can't breathe, like someone's choking me. Darn..
Swear! Psychological! Haha. Kaya madalas naka-on ang lights tuwing gabi. And it affects me now, kasi di ako nakakatulog pag madilim. haha
ReplyDeleteay, you feel the same thing.. parang ang hirap makahinga, ano? katakot tlga pag ganun, yung sobrang sobrang dilim.
Deletedont worry Leah, every one including me have fears and I am afraid in almost all those you mentioned too. I am afraid of snakes and cockroaches hehe. I am afraid of heights and the sea but i love life. I cant be hindered because of my fears.
ReplyDeleteThank you po, doc. We all have fears nga naman, kaso dito samen, ako lang yata ang may fear of horror movies and spiders and dentists. Especially dentists. Haha!
DeleteI hate cockroaches.. I don't really fear them, but I fear their bite.
i also dont watch morbid films. they make me puke literally. but im not afraid of blood the cuts, bruises and the wounds are what im afraid of. hahaha
ReplyDeleteAy naman.. Well, if it's my own blood, I could take it.. sometimes. At lahat ata ng DEEP cuts and wounds, ayoko rin makakita nun. Even the smell of blood, kakahilo!
DeleteI'm scared of spiders and blood too. Especially blood. There is a reason why its on the inside of your body and not running through your veins on the outside. (the reason is because its supposed to stay there haha)
ReplyDeleteHahaa.. That's so true! Blood should stay inside the body! :D
DeleteAko I don't like places without windows, Hindi ako makahinga... I don't like houses with grills sa windows feeling ko Nasa preso ako Hindi ako comfortable. So now that I have my house I have huge windows and glass window Lang. I can't sleep with the lights on naman.. Hehe and I'm also scared of ghost! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHehe, actually now that you've mentioned the window grills, ganun din ang naramdaman ko dati. Hehe, feeling ko nasa jail ako. :p but good thing, I've gotten over it na. :D
Deletei'm not afraid of the dark nor being all alone, i LOVE horror films, yeah i'm a weirdo!
ReplyDeletei'm not afraid about anything you mentioned above...
there's only one thing i'm afraid of...
IPIS!!
hehe.. Uwu, you really do loe horror movies, iya. Ikaw na! hehehe.. I hate ipis. Hate them, hate them, hate them..
Deleteayus lang yun!
ReplyDeleteako nga kalalaking tao pero takot sa gagamba, malaki man o maliit,
:))
Hihi.. kahit na maliit? :D
DeleteI'm okay with small spiders, pero yung malalaki at yung masyadong mabalahibo, eeek!
Phobias have their own reasons. A scared person is always on the alert. Though fears just a state of the mind, but it's still good, if not better to he on guard always. Take care of your "fears" I know someday they help you out.
ReplyDeleteThat's true.. a scared person is always on the alert. i'm always alert, lalo na pag sa gabi. :p Thank you for the comment, sir.
DAGA at MASAMANG TAO!
ReplyDeleteOh diba? I know mahilig ka din sa animated movies, Akoni. hehe.. Apir! Ay, masamang tao.. nakakatakot nga sila.
DeleteWow, this is interesting Leah. Thunderstorms, toilets and dentists - these, you have to overcome my dear. Haha. I'm just teasing you.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid of snakes. The real ones, pictures and the plastic ones. Haha.
I hate them. I don't care about balancing ecosystem and all that sh*t, but why can't they be extinct???
Hahaha.
DeleteYeah, snakes! Why can't they be extinct na? :|
Lol. I am afraid of Taong grasa, snakes, dark and mga kwentong multo. Hahaha. Magaling kasi ako mag-imagine kaya madali rin ako matakot. :) Let us overcome these fears. Para masmasaya ang buhay. :)
ReplyDeleteAy, pareho tayong may wild imagination.. pero yes, let us overcome our fears.. kakayanin.
LOL..
I don;t think your fears are weird
ReplyDeleteThanks, Stacy...
DeleteClowns make me very, very nervous. |:
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, it's okay to be afraid. Keeps you on your toes and whatnot. But the dark really isn't that pleasant, nope. Sure, I can sleep in it, 'cause I'll just put my mind away, but consciously being in the dark is something else.
Clowns are a bit weird-looking, right? And they're.... I dunno. I don't really fear them now, but sometimes, I still get goosebumps when I see clowns. haha!
DeleteHah, I agree. Being in the dark is like being in another world.. :|
No you're not! Everyone has fears, phobias, and etc. I'm telling you I'm scared of railways. Maybe because I have seen an accident in the past. Which scares me everytime I stand in the platform. I can see it's like hell. There are reasons why we have different fears. Your al right nothing is wierd. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, your fear developed because of a bad experience. :( Well, yes I agree. There are reasons why we have fears.. Each and everyone of us fear something.. Thanks, ms Jenny.
DeleteOur fears help create who we are. Those that we overcome, and those that we may choose or not choose to still be fearful of. Those who claim to be without fear have but the biggest fear to claim.
ReplyDeleteAwesome words.. Thank you! :)
Deleteat my age ,I am still afraid of the dark. I make sure that the light is on or it is not totally dark when I 'm alone in the room .hubby knows that.We used to live in Qatar ,hubby leaves 3:30 am for work .He always make sure that the lamp shade is on while i am stii sleeping.
ReplyDeleteAwww.. I don't think I'll overcome this fear, as well..ms Tess. Takot talaga ako sa sobrang dilim. THere has to be a night light, or a lamp turned on inside my room. Feeling ko babangungutin ako pag wala..
DeleteIt's not unusual to be scared or to get scared with something or perhaps someone, what is scary is not getting over the fear when you need to and living in fear for no reasons.
ReplyDeleteI am scared of so many things, we are all scared at one thing or two and that make us sane.
Don't worry i was afraid of the JAWS movie too....but that was long time ago and now not anymore.
Wow.. Thank you sir. Glad to know I'm not the only one who's afraid of the JAWS movie. Good for you, sir, you've gotten over it.. Me? Tsk.. different story..
DeleteWe're opposite with the dark. I can't sleep with the lights on, gusto ko total darkness or at least dim light. With being left alone at night, i was scared too but I get used to it. Independent living. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteBut I certainly agree with horror movies. I don't watch them too especially when there's blood spilled in every scene. I got dizzy too.
Wow, independent living. Gusto ko rin sana nyan, kaso... hehehe.. well, I'm living independently din naman. Kaso with students all around (and also my Tita and Tito), I'm still not independent.. not really. Haha! Oh well..
DeleteAy naku.. nakakasuka, diba?
Ahas!hahaha
Hihi.. siguro nga. Pero in my case talaga, maliban sa takot ko sa ghosts, I can't breathe kapag nakabukas ang mata ko, tapos wala talaga akong makita dahil sa sobrang dilim. :|
DeleteAy, ahas! Almost everybody hates snakes! Animal or otherwise.. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBig hairy spiders.. eek!
Deletehahhahaha.. kakatuwa ka naman! love this post! ako naman snakes... nay... and i don't watch scary movies at all.. if I do, I'd be the one shouting - LOUD! lol!
ReplyDeleteHaha, pareho po tayo. Hindi talaga ako nanonood ng scary movies. Trailers pa nga lang, ayoko na. :p
Deletehehe me , I don't mind being alone.. what I scared most are these street children.. dont get me wrong.. i have a bad experience with them, once I gave food to a street kid, then he just sudden grabs it and caused to have my arms bruised.. simula nun, i stay away from them.. makes me nervous talaga.
Yun nga nakakatakot dun... at nakakalungkot, at the same time. THose kids should be at home, or at school, studying. Instead, sa kalye lang sila, namamalimos.
Deletei feel the same way . But believe me , i like horror stories tapos pagnatakot nako nagaggalit na ako sa mga taong nagkwento . Labo no"
ReplyDeleteNyahaha! Labo talaga.. Lols..
Nangingiwi pa din mukha ko pag too much gore yung pinapakita, I just love the excitement they're giving me while watching those kind of movies.
ReplyDeleteNatawa ako sa fear of toilet. Imagine kung di mo na-overcome yan Ate? HAHAHA. Actually, it's pretty good to live life with fear. Ayoko na ipaliwanag pero yun na yun! At least hindi phobia! HAHA.
LOL LOL.. Hay, ambot. :p
DeleteAy, ipaliwanag mo!! nambitin ka pa eh. LOL.. Joke, Josh. :p
snakes! ayuko talga forever! haha
ReplyDeletesa horror movies, marami akong kondisyon bago makapanood. dapat may kasama, dapat ako yung nasa gitna. kasi matatakutin ako sa mumu. hehe
Hehe.. :p
DeleteI tagged you btw :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I've been tagged! Thanks, Hazel. :D
DeleteHaha. Don't worry. Same with me ... most of the things that scare you, scare me as well.
ReplyDeleteHehe.. Glad to know I'm not the only one, ms Kathy. :D
Deleteewan di ko alam fear ko... hehehe
ReplyDeletePsychologically you sound normal. An average person is known to have around 40-50 fears if I remember that right. I'm afraid of many things and God knows what else. Large bodies of water - that's one of them.
ReplyDeletehey, that's okay! kapag mag-isa lang ako sa dorm, bukas ilaw the whole night. i guess it's because we're too imaginative for our own good most of the time? hahaha...
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm really scared of is to grow old alone. Thinking about it now just send shivers down my spines. :(
ReplyDeletebut i love blood, guts and gore! haha.
ReplyDeletebut i'm with you on the spiders and dentists, though. little spiders are sorta acceptable, but big hairy ones are freaky. and i always seem to think dentists will accidentally slip around in my mouth and stab my tongue or something.
i'm generally afraid of underwater, deep sea creatures in general. :(
