Visayas Earthquakes

The Negros islands and Cebu (and some major cities in the Visayas region, central Philippines) experienced a magnitude 6.7 earthquake this morning (February 6, 2012, 11:49 AM, local time PHL), and several more aftershocks in the afternoon.

I live in Iloilo City (which is about 94 miles away from Cebu City), and we also felt the earth shake under our feet. It was scary. But thinking back, when the main shock happened, the first thought that came to mind was "My dogs! I've got to make sure they're okay!"

I remember.. The earth was shaking, and instead of looking for safety or dropping to the ground and taking cover under a sturdy table or something, I hastily ran inside my room, led my two dogs to a safe spot in the backyard before running for cover myself. Apparently, I consider my dogs' lives to be way more important than my own. :p

Oh, well. Thank goodness, no one I know got hurt.

However, I've heard that this earthquake have caused landslides, extensive damages to properties and have taken lives, as well. Terrible news.

    1. Yes, ms Sey. Dun ata talaga sa Negros-Cebu region yung earthquake, pero abot pa tlga samin. Ang lakas.. Yung mga nasirang buildings, sa Negros ata yun. Yung mga cracked roads, dun rin ata sa Negros. I'm not sure kung merong damages sa Cebu, malamang meron nga.. Hayz..

Katakot talaga ang lindol. Wala kang magagawa.. Wala kang matatakbuhan..

  4. It's very human of you to think of your pets first. I hope things return to normal and there's no aftershocks. Take care!

    1. Salamat, Sendo. Sila talaga agad ang naisip ko eh.. :)

Yep, yep..

  6. Again with the earthquakes. I'd tell them to stop, but the earth's curst will never stop transforming really. Just wish we could prevent casualties like these from falling.

    1. True. The earth's crust never stops moving.. We always experience tremors, but we don't usually notice them. How I wish we'd stop having these strong quakes like the one that happened last Monday, or the one that hit Japan.. But there's really nothing we could do about it. It's the earth we're talking about..

      ... ahh, scary thought.

    1. Yes.. I tweeted when the shaking stopped. It was scary.. And the aftershocks happened while I was researching fault lines and watching earthquakes videos.

We both love our pets.. I didn't think about anything, just that I had to get them to safety.

  8. I'm glad to hear that you're safe Leah & syempre pati ang mga dogs mo =)
I heard about it in the news. Sad kasi when there's an earthquake, the damage does not end when the earth stops moving. My thoughts and prayers to all the families of those affected.
    Be safe, sis =)
