Day 16 - Fave Books

"Share something about your favorite book"

J.K. Rowling's The Harry Potter book series - *Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by the British author J. K. Rowling. The books chronicle the adventures of the adolescent wizard Harry Potter and his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story arc concerns Harry's quandary involving the evil wizard Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents in his quest to conquer the wizarding world and subjugate non-magical people (Muggles).

I saw the movie way before I got to read the book. And after reading the first book, I found myself yearning to read the next.. and the next.. and the next. The movies provided the spectacular visuals.. but I really prefer reading the books. I'm quite sure almost all of you, my dear readers, have read a Harry Potter book or have watched a Harry Potter movie. Any thoughts you'd like to share?

The Da Vinci Code - *The Da Vinci Code is a 2003 mystery-detective novel written by Dan Brown. It follows symbologist Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu as they investigate a murder in Paris's Louvre Museum and discover a battle between the Priory of Sion and Opus Dei over the possibility of Jesus having been married to Mary Magdalene.

Okay. When I first read the book, I was like.. "Whhaaattt??" and then, I went, "Whow, for real???". I'd have to admit, this book really made an impression on me. Are all of these true? The movie created quite a stir in the Catholic community and gained criticisms from the Catholic Church. Though many critics booed the movie, many people have also enjoyed watching the thriller. What about you? What are your thoughts about this book/movie?

Deception Point - *Deception Point is a 2001 techno-thriller novel by Dan Brown. The plot concerns a meteorite found within the Arctic Circle that may provide proof of extraterrestrial life, and attempts by dark forces to prevent this finding from becoming public.

After reading the The Da Vinci Code, I'm hungry for more Dan Brown books. Luckily, a friend of mine had one and he let me borrow it (Yikes! I haven't returned it back until now.) Finished reading this book in just one day. Then I read it again the next day. And again, the day after. Hehe! Anyway, what about you? What are your thoughts about extraterrestrial life? Are we really alone?

Michael Crichton's Prey - *Prey is a novel by Michael Crichton based on a nano-robotic threat to human-kind, first published in hardcover in November 2002 and as a paperback in November 2003 by Harper Collins. Like Jurassic Park, the novel serves as a cautionary tale about developments in science and technology; in this case, nanotechnology, genetic engineering and artificial intelligence.

Nanotechnology is really scary stuff. Just imagine, a cloud of dust, composed of molecular-sized robots.. could come into your home, take over your body and kill you. What if this cloud has gone completely rogue! Uncontrollable. Knows no master and sees you as its host. Scary. They're basically invisible to the naked eye. You could only see them when they're in clusters or groups. How do you defend against that? Really! They could simply go inside your lungs and block your airway. You'd be dead in seconds. Of course, this is science fiction. Have you read this book? You should. Hehe. So what are your thoughts about artificial intelligence and nanotechnology?

There. There are my favorite finds. There are still some more, but I think featuring four books would be enough. And you.. what books do you read?

  13. surprisingly i haven't read a single Harry Potter book and i only watched the first and second movies (which came out when i was still younger than ten. haha) i'm not really a fan of either J.K. Rowling or Dan Brown although i have read a couple of Dan Brown's books including Digital Fortress and The Da Vinci Code. i kind of like Michael Crichton because he writes sci-fi books and i have read and enjoyed a handful of his novels.

my literature choices are basically the same as my film genre preferences. xD
